A Digital Dash for Your ECU Master Classic, the RDM-7

Running an ECU Master EMU Classic? The RDM-7 has a built-in preset for it. Pick ECU Master Classic in the setup wizard and the channels come up named and scaled.

Read this before you order: the Classic needs a CAN module

This is the one thing that catches people out, so we would rather say it here than have you find out with a dash in your hands.

The EMU Classic has no CAN bus on its own. Per ECU Master's own documentation, CAN support is only possible with their external CAN BUS module. Without it there is nothing for the dash to listen to, no matter what it is wired to.

If you already run the module, you are fine. If you do not, you need one before a dash of any brand will work with a Classic. We do not sell it — ECU Master and their dealers do — and we would rather point you there than take an order that cannot work.

Setting it up

With the module fitted, two things have to be true in ECU Master's software:

  • The output stream over CAN is enabled — under Ext. port / General, tick Send EMU stream over CAN-Bus.
  • The CAN bus speed is set. The Classic module supports 500 kbps and 1 Mbps.

The RDM-7 detects the bitrate in its first-run wizard and stores it, so it will follow whichever you choose. Confirm the pin assignments against your own ECU Master manual before you cut anything — we would rather you checked than trusted a web page.

What the install takes at the dash end

Four wires: 12 V switched ignition, chassis ground, CAN High, CAN Low. Fuse the 12 V at 2 A. The plug is an eight-way push-in terminal block with release tabs, so there is no crimping. The dash ships with a 30 cm harness and a 2 m lead terminated in Deutsch DTM-4.

800x480 IPS touchscreen, around 50 fps, under 20 ms from bus to screen. Up to 128 CAN channels. Logging to microSD at 1 to 200 Hz in plain CSV. Build your layout in a browser tab on your phone over the dash's own Wi-Fi. Free firmware updates, no licence, no subscription.

Display, logging and CAN transmit only. The RDM-7 does not tune your ECU.
